Hong Kong Part 2
(by Deb)
We really planned a day off each week, so what fun to have a member of the Kazakhstan team in HK for that day. I was going over the border for a girls day with Katrina, MA, Cindy and Rajni and Sushma- long looked forward too, and have ordered a fine very warm long coat for Kazakhstan! That left Craig to be tour guide and we then met up for dinner. We were reminded that there are people awaiting our return and we are already part of both the school and Y W A M family in Almaty was a huge gift during our busy time connecting with so many fab friends in HK.
In our last two weeks in HK we had 8 talks, 5 dinners out, 3 lunches/teas and an evening meeting, all telling our story and raising awareness of what we are doing in Kazakhstan. The meeting was with the Union team, who commissioned us. They have generously committed to help cover the rest of what we had budgeted for this year. We were overwhelmed by the support and love that all our cheer leaders gave, meals and great interest in what we are doing. We are thankful for the partners on the journey.

Narrow Boat
(by Craig)
When you are asked to think of England, what images spring to mind. Castles? Estates? Buckingham Palace? Westmister Cathedral? Tower Bridge? What? ... What about Canal Boats? Canal (or narrow boats) are an im-age of England that has fascinated me for a long time. The fact th
at a series of waterways have been built that allow navigation from east to west, and that it is mostly now used for rec-reation is such a
gift of the industrial era to England. We had the opportunity to take a week out after the hectic Hong Kong schedule on just such a vessel. A wedding gift from David and Sylvia Bowman, we spent a week relaxing on the River Lee and River Stort. We also learnt how to operate the locks, the largest of which had a fall of 7' 11", (Metric? We are British you know) as well as turn a 57' vessel in a canal 58' wide. Great fun!
